“Champagne makes you feel like it’s Sunday and better days are just around the corner.” – Marlene Dietrich
A belated post on bubbly wine is better than none. Shouting, kissing and the sound of noise-makers all comes along with raising a glass of champagne on midnight at the start of a new year. Good champagne is heavenly, in fact, it tastes like diamonds and makes you float. This year, however, I decided to buy the less expensive Italian cousin, Prosecco, and invite some additions to my glass.
Prosecco and Lemon Peel. The lemon serves as an easy garnish and cuts the sweetness of the wine. With a peeler or carefully by hand, peel about 2 inches of the rind from a lemon and place in glass of Prosecco.
Prosecco and Guinness. An odd pairing that seems to work. This almost tasted like blackcurrant and the wine added some nice fizz to the creamy Guinness. I mixed 3:1, Prosecco and Guinness but I advise adding a little more beer.
This recipes pairs the two classics, Cosmopolitan and Bellini for a pretty and well-balanced cocktail.
Pour vodka and Cointreau into a shaker.
Squeeze in the juice of one wedge of lime.
Add peach puree, a splash of cranberry juice, and shake.
Strain into a cocktail glass, top with Prosecco and serve.
Then again, mixing and cutting and cocktail glasses are not for everyone…
Cheers!
Happy New Year.
